Wrex Mason is a Producer/Engineer/DJ from Hartford County, CT, currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Wrex Mason has been involved in music for almost 20 years, starting his musical journey at the tender age of 11 years old. He grew up with an appreciation for the Hip-Hop/R&B/Jazz/Gospel that was always being played in the household, and is classically trained on cello & percussion; but he found his true calling when one of his older cousins showed him how to make music on Music Generator for Playstation 1 on Christmas Eve, 2002.
Since that day, Wrex has been working at forming his own style, being inspired by the likes of J Dilla, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Alchemist, Madlib, Easy Mo Bee, and the mainstays of the legendary Los Angeles Beat Scene (including Flying Lotus, Ras G, Samiyam, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Dibiase, AFTA-1, and many others). He has produced for countless acts in the CT music scene including Brockhampton’s own Dom McLennon, and has expanded his reach to New York (via his collaborations with donSMITH, T-Bruin & Nothing_Neue) and California (via his collaborations with Oakland MC Nappy Nina, and Los Angeles MC/Producer K.Solar). Wrex hopes to continue to reach new audiences and new collaborators with his “Space Gospel” style. “Space Gospel”, a phrase coined by fellow producer and mentor, Nelson Bandela, is the melding of Hip-Hop, Broken-Beat, Jazz and Ambient music, providing the listener with a spiritual, one-with-the-universe feeling.
Wrex Mason has released a total of 9 projects since 2011. The bulk of his projects are apart of 2 different series: The Birth Chart series (“Aquarius Sun”, “Taurus Moon” and “Ascendant”), and the Raw Randos series. Wrex has also performed his music live in underground venues in NY and CT such as RISE Radio, Wonderville (fka Secret Project Robot), Goodbye Blue Monday, The SHOP, Silent Barn, The Kymberle Project, Friends and Lovers, Sully’s Pub, EightSixtyCustoms, Real Art Ways and The ArtSpace Gallery. Wrex plans to reach as many people as possible with his music & musical philosophy via releases, collaborations, streams and live performances.
